Orthopedic Implants

Knee Implants

In Total Knee Replacement surgery defective and painful part of Knee Joint is removed and Artificial Knee joint is fitted, thus free movement of Knee Joint is made possible.

In Osteoarthritis and Rheumatoid Arthritis pain in the joints are very severe and unbearable thus affecting the daily movement of the patients.

After Knee Replacement surgery patient is relieved from pain. In addition, deformity is corrected and patient can move his Knee freely, restoring normal daily activities. Now the extent at which the knee can bend after surgery depends upon number of factors like original knee bending quality, bone quality, quality of implant used etc. In case of obese patients bending may be less after surgery.
Most of the patients after Knee Replacement surgery are normal, performing their regular duties and activities in normal way as before like climbing on stairs, walking and sitting on chair and sofa.
After Knee Replacement surgery, patients are advised to go for light exercise, not putting more strain on joints. Patients usually take 2-3 months to recover fully, so that they can start their normal routine activities. They are in a position to even drive a car and play games like tennis.

Hip Implants

Hip joint is one of the most important joints of the body. The whole movement of the body depends upon it’s function. Hip joints have to withstand the whole weight of the body.
Hip Joint is Ball-Socket type joint. Your hip joint is made up of two major parts. One or both parts may be replaced during surgery:

 • The Hip socket (a part of the pelvic bone called the acetabulum)
 • The upper end of the thighbone (called the femoral head)

(Lower Bone) Hyaline cartilage lines both the acetabulum and head of the femur, acting as a shock absorber during movements. In between these layers there are synovial membranes which secret watery synovial fluid, acting as lubricant.
If due to any accident Hip joint is broken it can be replaced with ball and socket joint made from metal and plastic. After long research these joints have been designed in such a way so as to enable them to rotate freely.

Spinal Implants

In spinal cases surgery is done less frequently. It is advisable only when it becomes absolutely essential. These essential conditions are like slippage of spine, traumatic fracture or any other type of spinal instability.

In majority of spinal implants metal is used, either Titanium or Stainless Steel. As per requirement of the patient, particularly taking into consideration his age, they are used in different sizes.
Some of the types of spinal implants are cages which are placed in between of two vertebrae, in order to properly align the collapsed discs. Sometimes plates also are used which are held in proper position by screws. Rods are used with hooks and screws to hold the spinal cord properly.

Absorbable Sutures

Absorbable Sutures or Stitches are also known as dissolvable sutures or stitches.

After  any accident  tissues of the body get injured and to hold these tissues together sutures are useful. It involves a needle of required length and thread. Needles are made of different materials like cotton, silk etc. Strict quality check are been implemented in the selection of the material of these sutures and extra care is taken while packing too. Absorbable sutures can be used in case of external  as well as internal wounds and injuries.

Some important factors about these sutures are i.e.  i- Their elasticity depends upon the organ and on it’s movement elasticity of the thread is determined. ii- Decomposition property plays an important role as if the wound is not much deep thus rapidly decomposing sutures can be used. iii-Sutures can be thick or thin depending upon the nature of wound. In rare cases a stitch do not completely dissolve which can be removed after wound is healed.

While doctor uses special type of gowns blood cannot get inside & still keep cool beneath the gowns.  Drapes can be used during Knee Replacement ,  HIP Replacement, Spine Surgeries, and  many more Drapes & Gowns come in various shapes & sizes depending upon the requirements.
